COL James (Jim) DeOre, Jr. assumed command of U.S. Army Garrison -- Kwajalein Atoll on July 11, 2017.

COL DeOre is a native of Willis, Texas. He received his commission through ROTC in 1994 as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry upon graduation from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas with a Bachelor's in Biology.

COL DeOre's assignments include The Pentagon, where he has served as the Protection Division Chief for the Army's G-34 since July 2016; The National Defense Universities' Eisenhower School at Fort McNair, Washington DC, where he received a Master's degree in National Security and Resource Strategy; and Fort Polk, LA where he was an Infantry BN Senior trainer with the Joint Readiness Training Center.

At Fort Polk, DeOre commanded the 3rd Squadron, 89th CAV Regiment of the 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (now the 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Div), where he deployed his outfit to Kunar, Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne DIV (AASLT) and later the 10th MTN DIV. Prior to Battalion Command COL DeOre served his first stint with the Joint Readiness Training Center as the BDE S3 trainer, later the BDE XO trainer and finally the Senior Planner for Operations Group, JRTC.

In 2007, COL DeOre moved to Fort Campbell, KY and was assigned as the BN S3 for 2-327 IN (No Slack), 1st BDE 101st Airborne DIV (AASLT) where he deployed with his unit for a 14 month combat deployment to first, Samara, then Tikrit, Iraq. At Fort Campbell, Jim served as both the S3 for 2-327 and then BDE S3 for 1st BDE, 101st ABN (AASLT). Prior to ILE attendance at Fort Leavenworth, KS, COL DeOre served four years with the 75th Ranger Regiment as the Regimental AS1, Regimental HHC CDR, Training Officer and Regimental AS3 where he deployed multiple times to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. COL DeOre commanded C Co. 2-89th IN, 10th MTN DIV as a CPT, served as a Platoon Leader in 1-18th IN, 2nd BDE, 1st ID in Germany and his first assignment as an Army officer was with HQ, AMFL in Manheim, GE. Prior to commissioning, COL DeOre served as an enlisted medic with 3rd BN, 75th Ranger REG.

COL DeOre is married to Debbie his beautiful Texan wife, and is the proud father of Logan, an Army Brat and Texan at heart. The DeOre's share a love of family, the outdoors and service to our great country.
