PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif.--"I GIVE because I CARE" was the theme of the 2015 Combined Federal Campaign kickoff event held by the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Presidio of Monterey leadership in the Tin Barn Oct. 20.

In welcoming remarks, Col. Phillip J. Deppert, commandant of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, spoke to the audience and thanked them for attending the CFC kickoff.

"Just think of the difference we all can make as we raise money for these charities that are part of the Combined Federal Campaign -- enabling agencies to provide food, clothing, shelter, and financial assistance to those in need, as well as providing funds to support national and international causes of every type," said Deppert.

The CFC is the largest annual workplace charitable program combining a multitude of non-profit organizations. It allows employees to decide which organization or organizations they wish to donate to. There are more than 25,000 local, national and international charities to choose from. Pledges made by federal civilian and military donors during the campaign season support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.

Deppert said, "We have enjoyed a successful history with the CFC by setting a new standard each year with contributions. Last year, with your generous contributions in the military community, your donations totaled over $165,000 for Combined Federal Campaign, and this year, I challenge you to go back to your organizations and ensure that in the next two weeks, every person is given the opportunity to participate in this world-wide, annual campaign."

"None of this could have been possible without the leadership, motivation, and selfless effort and support from our service members, civilian key leaders, and our generous students, staff, faculty, and civilian workforce donors," he said, adding that "It was with our key leader's support and drive [that] enabled the Presidio to reach out to 100 percent of our population to either introduce or re-familiarize individuals with the Combined Federal Campaign mission and importance."

"Our goal this year is $185,000," said Deppert. "I'm happy to lead this year's effort. I am confident that we can meet that goal."

The CFC mission statement is to support and promote philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

Service members and federal employees can make donations via payroll deduction for an amount of their choice (starting in January), or a lump sum via check or cash. The payroll deduction option gives an advantage, allowing a small amount to be deducted each pay period to the charity an employee may have a specific interest in. Contractors can make donations by check or cash only.
