REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Oct. 15, 2015) -- More than 300 people attended the 2nd annual Safety, Health and Wellness Day event on Oct. 15. The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center, one of six U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command centers hosted the event.

"The Safety, Health, and Wellness Day is a wonderful opportunity for AMRDEC employees to focus on their personal well-being by attending specialized training, hearing informative speeches and visiting educational vendors with booths and displays from the local area," said Kimberly Cockrell, AMRDEC Prototype Integration Facility, Composites Lead. "This event empowers our employees to take better care of themselves with information to improve their health and their lifestyle."

Safety awareness, disaster preparedness, massages and food trucks were all a part of the event. Speakers, exhibits, demonstrations and training on poisonous snakes, holistic health and hospice care were included. This year's event had more vendors and police Officer Joe Poe, Huntsville Police Department training advisor presented information on inattentive driving, personal safety and situational awareness.

"Health and wellness is extremely important for me because my dad died from skin cancer," said Cathryn Schartung, AMRDEC Chemical Environmental Engineer and event organizer. "Our objective was to provide the AMRDEC workforce with local area resources that could help them improve their well being with proper training and education. If one person is able to improve their mental or physical health, then we achieved our goal."
