WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Army Military District of Washington announces the official race day schedule for the 31st Annual Army Ten-Miler scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11. The Army Ten-Miler is the third largest 10-mile race in the world and attracts 35,000 military and civilian runners from around the globe annually.

The race course begins and ends at the Pentagon and runs through the Nation's Capital passing such national treasures as the Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the Washington Memorial.

RACE DAY SCHEDULE:

4 a.m. -- 1 p.m. Free Express Shuttle runs between Pentagon North Lot and Pentagon South Lot

6 a.m. -- 12:30 p.m. Garment Check, located at Lower Bus Terminal at Pentagon Metro Station, all bags must be picked up by 12:30 p.m.

6:20 -- 7:30 a.m. Wave 1-4 Runner Corral Access (runners only)

7:15 -- 7:30 a.m. Golden Knights Jump, start area. The Golden Knights is one of the U.S. Army's elite parachute teams

7:30 -- 8:45 a.m. Wave 5-8 Runner Corral Access (runners only)

7:35 a.m. Invocation given by Chaplain (Colonel) Gary R. Studniewski, U.S. Army Military District of Washington

7:40 a.m. Presentation of Colors and the National Anthem sung by a soloist from the U.S. Army Band, "Pershing's Own"

7:50 a.m. Wounded Warrior and Wheelchair Athletes start

8 a.m. Race Begins

Wave 1 -- 8 a.m., Wave 2 - 8:08 a.m., Wave 3 - 8:16 a.m., Wave 4 -- 8:24 a.m., Wave 5 -- 8:32 a.m., Wave 6 -- 8:40 a.m., Wave 7 -- 8:48 a.m. and Wave 8 -- 8:55 a.m.

8 a.m. -- noon Youth Zone Activities, music, HOOAH and sponsor Tents, runner finish located in the North Pentagon Parking Lot

10:45 a.m. Youth Run warm-ups begin in the Youth Activity Zone for the 100 Meter and 200m runs.

11:30 a.m. Award Ceremony located on the Awards Stage. Awards include top three overall male, female, U.S. Military and Wounded Warrior along with wheelchair and numerous team awards.

11:30 a.m. Army Ten-Miler Youth Fun Runs. There is a 100m run for kids in K-3 grades and their parents and a 200m run for kids in grades 4-8.

EVENT NOTES:

Post-Race Party -- Celebrate with the Army Ten-Miler in the Finish Area with live music by United States Army Band Downrange.

ATM Youth Activity Zone -- The Army Ten-Miler is fun for the entire family. Youth Zone activities are located in the North Pentagon Parking Lot. Meet Champ the Cheetah, the Army Ten-Miler Youth Zone Mascot, the GEICO Gecko and the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents; learn fire safety with Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Fire Department; and play on the big inflatables.

HOOAH Tent Zone -- Army commands from around the world show their spirit, celebrate the race, and enjoy the post-race festivities in the HOOAH Tent Area. "Hank" the HOOAH Bird is awarded to the tent that best depicts the Army theme "Relevant and Ready."

Spectators -- Free express shuttle runs between Pentagon North and Pentagon South Lots. The best view places to be a spectator include: The Finish Line, Kennedy Center, Independence Avenue, and Army Navy Drive close to the finish line.

TRANSPORTATION, DIRECTIONS, PARKING AND SECURITY:

Transportation -- Pentagon and Pentagon City stations -- Blue/Yellow lines. Metro will open at 5 a.m. Sunday morning and is the recommended mode of transportation. For more details about how to get to the race, visit: www.youtube.com/embed/TV_FkMSHPfw.

Directions to the start line --From the Pentagon Metro Station, walk west toward the balloon arch on Route 110. From Pentagon City Metro Station and Army Navy Drive, use Fern Street or the I-395 pedestrian tunnel to get to the Pentagon South Parking Lot, pass through the security checkpoint and continue walking west toward the balloon arch on Route 110.

Parking -- There will be limited parking available to the media only in the Pentagon's Hayes Street parking lot. It is recommended runners and spectators take public transportation.

Security -- Be advised that all runners, spectators and bags entering through the race access points are subject to search at all times. Delays may be encountered, so please allow at least 15 minutes to pass through security. Only runners will be authorized entry to the start line with official Army Ten-Miler race bibs.

PROHIBITED ITEMS:

Race route -- Video and audio devices (CD or DVD players, mobile phones, MP3 players/ iPods, cameras, etc.) Pentagon -- Glass containers, coolers, skateboards, animals (except for guide dogs), roller blades, weapons, open flames and aerosol sprays (pepper and mace).
