REDSTONE ARSENAL, Alabama -- The Secretary of the Army has approved the selection of William "Bill" Colson, for the position of Technical Center director, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command.
Colson, who currently serves as director, Systems Simulation, Software and Integration (S3I), Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC), will officially join SMDC/ARSTRAT during an Assumption of Responsibility in November at the Von Braun III auditorium.
As the director of SMDC's Technical Center, Colson will be responsible for researching, developing testing and integrating capabilities for materiel solutions in tactical space, high altitude, missile defense, cyber, directed energy and related technologies. He will also be responsible for the management of the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site in the Marshall Islands.
In his current position as director, S31, Colson is responsible for directing research, development, acquisition and sustainment activities of the Army's advanced aviation and missile systems, providing support to the Missile Defense Agency's ballistic missile defense system, and managing key AMRDEC reimbursable mission areas. He recently completed a temporary leadership assignment with the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command Headquarters at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
Colson's previous assignments include aviation and missile test positions at the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command and various engineering roles with AMRDEC including program manager and program executive office leadership positions. He is a graduate of the Senior Service College Fellowship in 2008. In 2012 he was selected as the acting deputy director, AMRDEC, and was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2013.
