FRANKFURT, Germany -- Nearly 400 invited guests gathered here for the 11th annual German-American Friendship Day, Oct. 1.
Brig. Gen. Phillip Jolly, director of the U.S. Army Europe's Army Reserve Engagement Cell represented the command at the reception, which was hosted by Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann of Frankfurt and the Consul General James Herman, U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt.
Other attendees included representatives from the City of Frankfurt; the Bundeswehr, or German Armed Forces; representatives of various German-American organizations as well as members of the Frankfurt Galaxy Football team.
German-American Friendship Day was initiated in 2004 and emphasizes the importance of relationships among youths. It supports student projects designed to create greater understanding among young people from the United States and Germany.
The celebration's goals are to create a greater understanding of cultural, societal and political differences between the two nations, and to arrive at common ground based on values such as freedom, equality, democracy, rule of law and institutions.
