WEST POINT, N.Y. (October 1, 2015) -- The U.S. Military Academy at West Point men's tennis team will open its first of two competitions on the Oct. 1. Six of the team's top seven players will be competing in the Boise State Invite from Oct. 1-4.

The 11-team field consists of Montana, Lewis Clark State College, Utah State, service-academy rival Air Force, Idaho State, Abilene Christian, Seattle University, Portland State and Weber State. Hosts Boise State is the only one out of the group that finished the 2014 season nationally-ranked, coming in at No. 29.

"It's going to be an exciting weekend, especially going against Boise State," said head coach Jim Poling. "That team has won the (Mountain West) conference title four years in a row. It's going to be a great tournament against some western teams that we really don't get to see very often."

Cadets Sam Lampman and Grant Riechmann, both juniors, highlight the group with their exceptional doubles play thus far. The pair has gone 3-1 together in 2nd flight matches. Riechmann carries a 5-1 overall record in doubles while Lampman's record stands at 4-1.

"Our goal is to be playing better at the end of the tournament than when we started. We've got some specific things we've been working on, and we're just trying to improve in those areas. We're trying to prepare our guys for the ITA Regionals in three weeks right now," Poling said.

The four-day tournament is set to begin on October 1, and will run all day.
