COL Douglas J. Waddingham is native of Butler, Pennsylvania. He was commissioned in 1992 after graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Army ROTC program at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He also holds a Masters Degree in Military Operational Art and Science from Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.

COL Waddingham's military education includes the Air Defense Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Joint Firepower Control Course, Air Command and Staff College, Army Force Management School, and Army Airborne School.

COL Waddingham's last assignment was the Chief of Operations for the Director of Materiel, HQDA G-8 Force Development Directorate, Washington DC. His previous assignments include serving as the Commander of the 3RD Battalion, 43RD Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas. Under his Command, the Battalion deployed to the CENTCOM AOR in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and redeployed to execute the Department of the Army's Patriot Directed Test and Evaluation Mission. He also served as the PAC-3/MEADS Team Chief at Air and Missile Defense, Space Division of the Force Development Directorate (HQDA G-8), where he ensured our Nation's only battle tested Theater Ballistic Missile defense capability was properly equipped, sustained and modernized; Battalion Executive Officer for 5-5 Air Defense Battalion, Fort Lewis, Washington; Deputy Garrison Commander and Life Support Officer for Contingency Operating Base Spiecher, Iraq; Battalion Operations Officer (S-3) 5-5 Air Defense Battalion, Korea; Secretary of the General's Staff for Space and Missile Defense Command, Washington DC; Aide de Camp for the Commander, Space and Missile Defense Command, Washington DC; Assignment Officer for the School of Advanced Military Studies and Command and General Staff, PERSCOM; Air Defense Observer/Controller at the Combat Maneuver Training Center, Hohenfels, Germany; Battery Commander, 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado; Executive Officer Bravo Battery, 1-5 Air Defense Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia; and Bradley Stinger Fighting Vehicle, Avenger, and Stinger Platoon Leader, 1-5 and 1-2 Air Defense Battalions, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

COL Waddingham's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with six oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (with three oak leaf clusters), the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, Overseas Ribbon, and the Parachutist Badge. He is also a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and Saint George.
