ANSBACH, Germany (Sept. 23, 2015) -- The German-American friendship club Outreach-KONTAKT Franken hosted an end-of-summer barbecue at Soldiers Lake on Urlas recently.
Members brought side dishes and desserts pot-luck style, while others manned the grill for roasting burgers and hot dogs. The weather played along as well: "We lucked out with the weather, and everybody is really enjoying themselves. Plus, the food everybody brought is fantastic," said Dennis Gardner, German president of the club.
The club hosts many different events and activities throughout the year; this year's events included trips to a summer toboggan track, kayaking in Fränkische Schweiz (or "Franconian Switzerland") or laser tag and go-carting. Members also engage actively in community relations efforts; examples are the participation in the Ansbach city clean-up or a visit with food donations to the animal shelter. On top of that members meet twice a month for regular meetings called "Stammtisch" at local restaurants in Ansbach and Herrieden.
Stammtisch days are the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Rezatstuben in Ansbach and the third Tuesday at the Linde in Herrieden. The next Stammtisch in Ansbach on Oct. 6 will be a special "Oktoberfest" edition.
Outreach-KONTAKT Franken is open to everyone; interested community members are welcome to stop by any Stammtisch meeting to find out more about the friendship club.
