Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. -- Nearly 30 interns from the Army Contracting Command -- Aberdeen Proving Ground completed the four-week Army Contracting Boot Camp course here Sept. 11.
ACC's Mobile Training Team taught the course, which included topics such as regulations and policy, contract types, market research, negotiations and acquisition planning.
"The boot camp provides a great foundation for those new to government contracting," said Dana Dowell, procurement analyst with ACC-APG's Workforce Development Branch.
Intern Amber Lowe attended the class after only six days on the job.
"The class was informative and it gave me insight," she said. "Since I took the class early in my internship, it gave me a great overview of what my job would entail. The instructors were excellent, but I also learned a lot by interacting with the other interns during group work."
Bryon J. Young, ACC-APG executive director, spoke to the group on the final day of class and presented each graduate with a diploma.
"Once you become contracting officers, you will have a specific authority that few people have -- you can bind the government," he said. "This is an awesome position of trust and responsibility."
The course concluded with remarks from Steve Bryant, ACC-APG's deputy director, who told the graduates, "This class gave you the opportunity to learn, network and build relationships, all necessary to make you successful."
