WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Army Military District of Washington will conduct a Presidential Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath-Laying Ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in honor of William H. Taft, 27th President of the United States Birthday.

The wreath-laying ceremony is open to the general public. Space is limited to standing room only. Attendees are encouraged to be at the Taft's gravesite by 8:15 a.m.

Service members from the ceremonial units will be available for public and media inquiries after the wreath-laying. Interested media may contact the U.S. Army Military District of Washington Media Relations Office at 202-685-4645 or usarmy.mcnair.mdw.mbx.mediadesk-omb@mail.mil to set-up interviews.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Taft became the first president and first Chief Justice to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Taft is one of two presidents buried at Arlington (the other is John F. Kennedy), and is one of four Chief Justices buried there (Earl Warren, Warren E. Burger, and William Rehnquist are the others). As a former president, Taft is the only Chief Justice to have had a state funeral.
