TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT, Pa. -- Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack presented the Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal to Frank W. Zardecki in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the nation and to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania while serving as the deputy commander of Tobyhanna Army Depot.
The award, signed by Governor Tom Wolf and Major General James R. Joseph, the Adjutant General of Pennsylvania, was given during a ceremony here August 28.
Zardecki has served as deputy commander since 1990. Under his leadership, Tobyhanna Army Depot has become the largest industrial employer in the region, with an economic impact of $3.4 billion and supports 13,500 jobs throughout northeast Pennsylvania. Zardecki's leadership has resulted in Tobyhanna's recognition as the most productive and efficient depot in the Department of the Army.
In addition, his strategic vision for industrial excellence and modernization have made Tobyhanna the benchmark for innovation throughout the Army.

As deputy commander, Zardecki oversees operations that ensure the depot is the Joint C4ISR provider of choice for all branches of the Armed Forces and industry partners.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he began his depot career in 1966 as an electronics-mechanic helper. Since 1972, he has held a wide variety of management positions, including first-line supervisor in the Avionics Branch, chief of Production Engineering and deputy director of Maintenance.
Zardecki attended Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre, PA, and the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA, and is a 1995 graduate of the Senior Executive Fellowship Program, JFK School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA.
Throughout his career, Zardecki has been selected to serve on numerous Department of the Army and Department of Defense special studies examining military logistics. He is recognized as an expert in depot maintenance and for his business acumen.
