FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 2, 2015) -- The Maneuver Center of Excellence with the German liaison officers and their Families celebrated 60 years of the Bundeswehr and international cooperation Aug. 26 at the MCoE.

"Today we recognize the 60th anniversary of the German Armed Forces which were established on Nov. 12, 1955," said Lt. Col. Thomas K. Harland, German liaison to the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

"Furthermore, we recognize the 60th anniversary of the German armed forces' prevalent presence in the United States."

On any given day at 50 different locations about 1,400 German service members serve Germany on American soil, Harland said.

Harland quoted American political scientist Samuel P. Huntington, "Probably no country has ever had a wider variety of experience in civil-military relations than modern Germany." He pointed at the many lessons the German army has learned, both good and bad, over the course of its long history.
