FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 2, 2015) -- Three Fort Benning noncommissioned officers reached a milestone in their Army careers Aug. 26.

1st Sgt. Michael McQuality, Staff Sgt. Derrick Gosney and Staff Sgt. Joseph Markley were inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club in a ceremony in McGinnis-Wickam Hall's Marshall Auditorium.

The Sergeant Audie Murphy Club is an organization whose membership is open to NCOs who have demonstrated professional excellence. The club performs community service around Fort Benning and the Columbus area. Candidates for membership must be nominated by their commander and are tested on a variety of leadership skills and knowledge areas -everything from how to prepare defensive positions to proper uniform wear. Candidates must also know the biography of Audie Murphy, who was the most decorated Soldier of World War II.

"The dedication of these NCOs is inspiring, and their responsibilities only increase after this induction," said Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Clemens, command sergeant major of the Armor School. "How will you create excellence? Will your actions tell the same story as your words? These individuals have embraced that challenge and they are the NCOs that their Soldiers deserve."

SAMC inductions are important because it's an opportunity to recognize the hard work of outstanding NCOs, said 1st Sgt. Edward Cummings, D Company, 3rd Squadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment, and president of the Fort Benning chapter of SAMC.

"It helps showcase some phenomenal NCOs as well as shows what they've done for the club," he said.

1st Sgt. Michael McQuality, who is attached to the Warrior Leaders Course, said it was great to be recognized with such an outstanding group.

"It's not just about recognizing excellent NCOs, it's about reaching out and getting involved in the community," he said.
