ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Maj. Marian Feist, a contract specialist assigned to the Army Contracting Command-Rock Island, was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal during a ceremony here, Aug. 13. Melanie Johnson, ACC-RI executive director, presided over the ceremony, while Maj. Drenna Thompson, rear detachment officer in charge, provided remarks prior to the presentation.

Feist was honored with the recognition for several reasons, including her selection as the Administrative Contracting Officer in Kuwait for 10 contracts valued at more than $300 million while supporting the Contingency Contract Administration Services mission. During this time, she wrote four chapters of the CCAS handbook used by the battalion and assisted in compiling 10 continuity books for teams that will assume the mission.

Serving as the 721st contracting team leader for 27 months, the team's $200 million workload received no major deficiencies during a Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Procurement inspection.

As officer in charge providing contract support to the 82nd Airborne Division during a two-month training exercise at the National Training Center, Feist also stood out. She and her team awarded $670,000 in contracts, resulting in a team recognition for completing quality contracts in record time.

Feist often volunteered to take on additional workload within the IT Division to ensure they could accomplish their assigned missions, and to get more contracting experience. She also provided sponsorship to incoming Soldiers assigned to ACC-RI and assisted in planning Military Professional Development events.

Feist said that she has enjoyed her time spent at the Rock Island Arsenal, and has learned a lot in her various roles. She will be leaving RIA for her new assignment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, at the end of the month.

"I met a lot of very wonderful, caring people that showed me so much about contracting and I truly appreciate all the knowledge I gained here at ACC-RI," said Feist. "I'm honored to have received the Meritorious Achievement Award and that Mrs. Johnson personally presented it."
