ANSBACH, Germany (Aug. 17, 2015) -- Once a year, at the end of summer, the U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach assembles many different organizations and services in one place for the annual community showcase.

New members of the community as well as residents already familiar with processes can find out what is available to them, register with different organizations and learn about updates for existing services, clubs and organizations from the Ansbach community. It is a chance to meet the faces behind the programs, register for classes, services and organizations -- and find out everything community members would need or want to know to have a successful year in USAG Ansbach.

This year the showcase is scheduled to take place in and around the Katterbach Fitness Center Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

While the showcase opens its doors, a "Back-to-School" fun run for the whole community starts at 9 a.m. on site. Registration for the run begins at 8 a.m. until 10 minutes before the race; the little ones ages 6 to 11 run with their parents at 9 a.m.; youth 12 to 13 and 14 to 17 years of age start right before the adults at 9:30 a.m. Strollers and pets on leashes are allowed during the adult run. Participants will receive awards in various categories, based on their placing in the run.

The community showcase was moved back to Katterbach from Urlas, as the new fitness center provides enough space for the many different divisions of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, like the Army Community Service, the Bowling Centers, the entertainment department, Auto Skills Center, Sports and Fitness, or Outdoor Recreation.

Private organizations, like the spouses and civilian club and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, are sharing the space with the banks, the Veterinarian Treatment Facility and health clinics, as well as religious services, self-help stores, the Environmental Division and the Housing Office. The Army Substance Abuse program is offering advice about the influence of alcohol and illegal substances.

Parents of children of all ages will find tables run by Child, Youth and School Services with information about the fall sports and the numerous other activities and services offered. Get in touch with DoDDS Europe representatives, administrators and principals from the community schools, or find out about bus routes and passes, and the Free and Reduced Lunch Program from the School Liaison Office.

The German-American Friendship Club "Outreach-KONTAKT Franken" is represented by members to talk about the club's activities and upcoming events. The Public Affairs Office will be there to inform the community about the garrison website, Facebook pages, the newly launched Ansbach Hometown Herald and the Franconian News; find out more how to access information about off-post events and activities through the various community relations programs.

Representatives from the Ansbach and Rothenburg tourist offices will be passing on information about the region, and upcoming events or guided tours.

While the community showcase is mostly designed for Soldiers, Civilians and Family members new to the community, current residents will find plenty of useful information and chances to catch up and reconnect with organizations and services after the long summer break.
