GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- The 23rd Ordnance Company is full of examples of leaders developing on base and out in the community and the cases in point range from the unit's lowest ranks to its highest.

Spc. Brian Rodgers, an ammunition specialist, supports the Vilseck High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, the Girl Scouts, the Vilseck High School Boys Basketball Team, and the USO.

"I am very thankful for the opportunities that we have, so I believe it is my responsibility to give back to the community," Rodgers said.

Sgt. 1st Class Evelyn Diaz, headquarters platoon sergeant, supports the garrison's USO.

"Soldiers give so much to our organization, so supporting the USO allows me to give back to our Soldiers and their Families," said Diaz. "If Soldiers see me out there, they will be encouraged to do the same."

"Army Leadership does not end with the Army," Capt. Nicholas P. Dunn, 23rd Ordnance Company commander said. "Soldiers are leaders no matter the rank, and we encourage our junior Soldiers to take the lead in the community."

The company is preparing for the German-American Volksfest, an annual event on U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria's Grafenwoehr Training Area that brings in the local populace.

Dunn added, "Our Soldiers are taking time out of their weekend to support the event, build esprit de corps, and show our community that Soldiers enjoy the German culture while sharing a bit of American culture with them."
