CAMP ZAMA, Japan -- The Department of the Army Food Management Assistance Team recently visited the Logistics Readiness Center-Honshu, 403rd Army Field Support Brigade, to evaluate the current food program at the Camp Zama Dining Facility, here.
The visit was the first of its kind due to an updated evaluation process that focused on providing recommendations for improving the facility and the quality of services provided to Soldiers and civilians in the community.
The FMAT included Chief Warrant Officer 4 Anita Williams, Sgt. Maj. Ricky Gaines, Roderick Piggott and Master Sgt. Deon Cain, all from Department of the Army G-4.
Each overseas DFAC is visited every 12 months to receive an evaluation in all areas of food service operations. These evaluations are essential to ensure food service operations are conducted according to guidance and instructions directed by the Department of the Army -- making sure Soldiers are receiving the most nutritional meals possible to promote health and fitness.
Williams's evaluation focused on food program management, cash control, special training, dining facility reviews, utility rates, diner use policy, and the subsistence prime vendor program.
Gaines and Cain concentrated their efforts on administrative system automation, account management, food preparation, food protection, menu standards, sanitation, and diner satisfaction.
Piggott evaluated the facilities and equipment infrastructure, renovation projects, life cycle replacement of food service equipment, facility modernization plan development, maintenance, energy conservation, and training.
The FMAT visit provided the DFAC staff insight into what operations are going well and what opportunities there are for improvement.
"There's no greater love than the love of food. Folks just don't forget great flavor," said Gaines, who evaluates diner satisfaction.
The visit concluded with an exit briefing to the LRC-Honshu director, Jose Toro, where all members of the FMAT expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and the care that has been given to the DFAC. The FMAT published their final report, giving the Camp Zama DFAC an overall rating of excellent.
