REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala-- The U.S. Army Contracting Command here will get a new commander next month.

The Army announced July 21 that Maj. Gen Ted Harrison, ACC commanding general, will become the director of Operations, Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff, Installation Management, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.

He will be succeeded by Maj. Gen. James E. Simpson, who is currently the director for Contracting, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology), Arlington, Virginia. The change of command is scheduled for Aug. 19 here.

Harrison assumed command of ACC in October 2013. He said he will miss the men and women of ACC.

"ACC's people are the command's most valuable resource," Harrison said. "They are the power behind Army contracting. Any success we've had as a command is a direct result of ACC Soldiers, Army civilians and our contractor support staff coming together as one team to acquire goods and services for the Army's global mission. It's been a very high honor for me to serve as their commander."

Simpson is returning to ACC. He was the command's chief of staff from June 2010 to March 2011. He has a long history of contracting leadership. He was the Senior Contract Official-Iraq, Joint Theater Support Contracting Command, Iraq, from April 2011 to February 2012. He also served as the deputy chief of Contracting Management, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, DC, from May 2012 to June 2013. He then became the commander, Joint Theater Support Contracting Command, in Afghanistan, from June 2013 to June 2014, when he assumed his current position.
