Lt. Col. Heather L. Maki assumed command of the U.S. Army Priority Air Transport Command (USAPAT) from Lt. Col. Erich R. Then during a change of command ceremony inside Hangar Two at Joint Base Andrews, Md., July 17, 2015.
USAPAT plans, coordinates and conducts worldwide executive airlift in support of U.S. Army senior leaders, DoD executives, congressional delegations and combatant commanders.
"It has been the highest honor of my career, and the most humbling experience of my life," said Then, describing his time as the USAPAT commander. "Humbling because these men and women represent much of what is good and pure in America."
Col. Timothy Brown, commanding officer of the U.S. Army Air Operations Group (AAOG) was the host for the ceremony and commented on the stellar performance of Then during his time as commanding officer, as well complimenting the Soldiers of the command on their hard work and dedication to duty. USAPAT is a subordinate command of AAOG.
USAPAT's new commanding officer also had high praise for the men and women of the command, and commented on what her new duties mean to her.
"I truly appreciate the responsibility the Army bestowed upon me with my selection for a Battalion Command," said Maki. "I am absolutely honored to take command of such an amazing organization with a strong, professional reputation."
Maki is a native of Aurora, Minn. and is a Distinguished Military Graduate from the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University.
