Top defense firms recognized for superior performance

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, July 14, 2015) -- The Department of the Army today announced its top performing industry partners for 2015. This is the second annual ranking released as part of the Department of Defense's Superior Supplier Incentive Program, or SSIP.
"We remain committed to providing the best equipment to our Soldiers at the best value for the taxpayer," said Heidi Shyu, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology. "SSIP is one of the ways we recognize our top performers."
An extension of the Department's Better Buying Power initiative, SSIP is designed to incentivize contractor performance by identifying suppliers with the highest rankings in terms of cost, schedule, performance, quality, and business relations.
"The feedback the Department provides to industry through the Superior Supplier program is intended to allow our suppliers to benchmark their major business units against other firms," said Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics.
"The program lets the leadership and employees of the best-performing firms know that their work is high quality and appreciated, and it helps the firms that have more room to improve know where they need to focus their efforts," he continued.
SSIP uses performance data gathered through the Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System, or CPARS, to evaluate suppliers' work at the end of the performance period. For the 2015 list, the performance period included Fiscal Years 2012 to 2014.
"Being in Tier I is an incredible accomplishment," Shyu said. "It lets industry leaders and their employees know that the customer truly appreciates their hard work."
With more than three decades of experience in the private sector, Shyu knows firsthand the pride that goes into building high quality products for the military at best value to the taxpayer.
The 2015 list of Army suppliers includes 16 Tier I superior suppliers, up from 11 Tier I superior suppliers in 2014. In addition, 32 other business units are recognized as Tier II and Tier III suppliers.
"This is an effort to look across the Army's very valuable suppliers and identify those who provide the greatest value in terms of their performance," said Harry Hallock, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for procurement. "Those suppliers achieving Tier I status are the vendors who consistently achieved or surpassed all contractual requirements, delivering the best products and services to our warfighters."
