The Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will host the third installment in its Moral Leadership Luncheon series July 7.

Attendees will be treated to a free lunch in the Fellowship Hall and then participate in an informal presentation from guest speaker Army Lt. Gen. James C. McConville, U.S. Army deputy chief of staff, G-1.

JBM-HH Chaplain (Maj.) Fred Wendel conceived the program when he was stationed on Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Ga., and is excited to incorporate the quarterly event into the joint base community.

The presentation is unlike other command presentations in that it is a more informal, personal atmosphere, Wendel told the Pentagram.

"It's getting key leaders to give a presentation on leadership and its moral aspects," he said. "It's meant to be a presentation that's more personal. They're giving their professional understanding of leadership but in a more personal kind of way. The atmosphere we provide is more relaxed."

The two previous speakers in the quarterly series were Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, former commanding general of Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and Military District of Washington, and Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Bryan B. Battaglia, senior enlisted adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"They spoke more from personal experience and then tied that in with the professional aspects of leadership," Wendel said. "It's for people who have key leadership positions to speak about their experience of leadership, what's important to them, what they've learned and what they want to impart to others."

After lunch and the presentation, the room is opened for questions.

"There's the opportunity to ask questions, so it can become more a dialogue," Wendel said.

And Wendel hopes to expand the luncheon series as it goes along, bringing in speakers who might not necessarily be military personnel, but who have a unique perspective to share.

"It's hopefully to give those in uniform different understandings of leadership and values and morality from a lot of different perspectives," he said.

Wendel said he's received nothing but positive feedback so far.

"It seems like people have benefited from it," he said.

The Moral Leadership Luncheon series is open to all active duty military personnel, Department of Defense civilians, contractors and retirees.

The July 7 luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Memorial Chapel.

Wendel encouraged attendees not to worry if they're running late - the presentation won't begin until closer to noon, he said.

RSVPs are due no later than July 2.
