GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- The Army Field Support Battalion-Italy and Base Operations Support (BASOPS) maintenance division received a task from U.S. Army Sustainment Command mid-April to paint European Activity Set equipment at its site in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

The latest vehicle to undergo paint booth operations is the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck A4, a cargo resupply vehicle.

Planning analysis started immediately to increase storage capabilities, procure personal protective equipment, tools and chemical agent resistant coating (CARC) paint.

In June, BASOPS maintenance received the first vehicle to be painted. Workers started immediately with process one (cleaning and masking), and then transitioned to process two (priming, adding green, chalking the design, and adding black). Two weeks later, BASOPS maintenance received a limited amount of brown CARC which allowed transition to process three (de-masking) to complete the first vehicle. The second vehicle has since been completed and the third vehicle has entered the process.

"The outstanding synchronization and coordination between ASC, 405th AFSB, AFSBn-Italy, BASOPS Maintenance Division, and U.S. Army Garrison-Bavaria, Theater Logistics Support Center-Europe and Defense Logistics Agency has set the stage for making this paint mission an initial success," said Stephanie Kramer, BASOPS division chief.

In addition to the BASOPS maintenance division paint efforts, AFSBn-Italy painted eight Light Equipment Transporters and two Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles expandable vans.
