FORT BENNING, Ga. (July 1, 2015) -- The Maneuver Center of Excellence welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Metheny as the senior NCO to the MCoE and Fort Benning command team during a ceremony June 25 at the Benning Club.

Metheny comes to the MCoE from his previous assignment as the commandant of the Henry Caro Noncommissioned Officers Academy on Fort Benning.

"After being here a little over 14 months, I'm really excited with the initiatives we started over the last 12 months for those to gain momentum and be able to see those initiatives through to their fruition," Metheny said.

Maj. Gen. Scott Miller, MCoE commanding general, said there are specific traits he wanted in his command sergeant major, which included energy, a care for Soldiers and someone who is still at a point in his career that he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty - "figuratively and literally," Miller said.

Miller promised that Metheny would be a little busier working as the MCoE command sergeant major than he was at the NCO Academy.

Metheny said he has high expectations of the Soldiers of the MCoE.

"If you're in an Armored Brigade Combat Team, I expect you to be a master gunner; if you're in an Infantry Brigade Combat Team, I fully expect you to be Airborne qualified, Jumpmaster, Ranger," he said. "Use those functional portions and use those tough assignments and don't stovepipe yourself."

Miller said he was honored to have Metheny on his right as the MCoE looks to the future and ensures every Soldier who comes to Fort Benning has the absolute best experience, is properly trained and educated and that the MCoE is setting up the Army for the future.

"I am fully committed," Metheny said. "And know, that with me, you're not getting just Sgt. Maj. Metheny, you're getting the Metheny Family. It's not the amount of people who work for you, it's the amount of people that you work for. We're very excited to serve the 125,000 Soldiers, Families, DA civilians, retirees and community partners here."
