The U.S. Army Transportation Agency has a new commanding officer. Maj. Altwan Whitfield replaced Lt. Col. William Arnold during a ceremony held in Washington, D.C., June 5.

"To this team of highly professional leaders, non-commissioned officers affectionately known as 'Carpet,' your professional excellence and presidential quality is unmatched," said Whitfield. "I want to close with this quote by an unknown author: 'if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together."

The Army Transportation Agency is a subordinate command of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and provides transportation services to the First Family, White House staff and official visitors of the First Family in the National Capital Region. The unit also provides support for Presidential Motorcades.

"As I reflect on the last two years, I am honored to have served with this team as we were a part of history others will only get to read about," said Arnold. "To my team, I say thank you, thank you for your dedication to the mission, thank you for your support, for your service and for the service of your families. Each of you has made a difference each day and has made the unit the best it can be."
