FORT GORDON, Ga. -- The Eisenhower Army Medical Center successfully completed an unannounced Joint Commission reaccreditation survey on June 12.

The Joint Commission is an independent and not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 20,500 medical treatment facilities and programs in the United States.

"Although not required to be accredited, EAMC volunteers to be inspected by the outside agency to guarantee that the medical center's processes and procedures are safe so that the medical center can provide world class health care to its patients," said Col John P. Lamoureux, EAMC Commander.

On June 9, a five-member survey team visited EAMC where they inspected the inpatient units, procedural areas, ambulatory clinics, pharmacy, and several other areas to look at safety procedures and application of the policies in the areas.

"The surveyors provided a very thorough and comprehensive assessment of our processes of care, documentation, physical environment, and many other important facets of our institution."

At the conclusion of the inspection, the Joint Commission issued a report listing the Requirements for Improvement, which are areas where an organization must respond with corrective action plans.

Of the 550 standards that the medical center was graded on there were 13 findings at EAMC or a 98 percent score.

The inspection report detailed that there were nine direct impact RFIs and four indirect impact RFIs.

The medical center must submit a corrective action plan addressing each direct impact RFI within 45 days and within 60 days for each indirect RFI.

"I want to personally thank every member of our staff who did an extraordinary job showcasing our hospital's commitment to "Five Star Healthcare", providing the highest quality, safest care that meets or exceeds all standards set by external groups and our own internal standards. The Joint Commission surveyors were captivated and inspired by your passion and skill."

"The weeklong survey reaffirmed how truly special our organization is, a point the survey team made over and over."
