FORT POLK, La. - The 3rd Battalion, 353rd Regiment received a new battalion commander in a change of command ceremony June 17. The "Tiger Battalion" bid farewell to Lt Col. Gilbert F. Deimel, the outgoing commander, and welcomed Lt. Col. Chad M. Roehrman, incoming commander. The mission of the 3-353 is to train units and personnel designated as combat advisor roles or as Regionally Aligned Forces to advise, assist, and train partnered forces overseas.
The 3-353 not only supports the Joint Readiness Training Center during training rotations, but also deploys personnel from their Translator Interpreter Company to over 15 nations and multiple missions per year in order to provide expert translators to American units.
The 3rd Battalion was originally activated as the 4th Battalion, 353rd Regiment on May 1, 2009, under the 162nd Infantry Brigade at Fort Polk. It was reallocated to the Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center in late 2014. Deimel was the commander through the entire transition.
The 3rd Battalion consists of a Headquarters and Headquarters Company and the 52nd Translator Interpreter Company.
