ILLESHEIM, Germany (June 16, 2015) -- Several local government officials and members of their families from the towns of Bad Windsheim and Illesheim and a member of the press visited U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach's Storck Barracks Friday.
Leadership from 12th Combat Aviation Brigade and USAG Ansbach hosted the mayor of Bad Windsheim Bernhard Kisch, his family, several Bad Windsheim city council members, mayor of Illesheim Heinrich Förster, and others on a walking tour of Storck Barracks and its facilities.
The party met at the post chapel where Col. Christopher M. Benson, USAG Ansbach commander, briefed the audience on some of the changes at Storck Barracks due to the recent announcements on the Aviation Restructuring Initiative, the rotational forces and the European Infrastructure Consolidation.
As part of ARI, permanent military members and their Families who currently are stationed at Storck Barracks and are staying at USAG Ansbach will move to the Ansbach area. Rotational units will be stationed at Storck Barracks. As part of EIC, the Storck Barracks Commissary will close Sept. 30 this year.
Following Benson's briefing, Kisch presented Benson an engraved roof tile from Bad Windsheim's open-air museum as a gift from the city.
The group went on a walking tour afterward. During the tour, the group visited the Child Development and School Age Complex, a housing unit, the fitness center, the Community Activity Center, the Fussgangerzone and library, the Commissary, the Java Café and bowling alley and a static display of a helicopter.
