PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. (June 15, 2015) -- Motorists at Picatinny Arsenal who receive a traffic citation will not saunter down to the domain of a local magistrate to resolve the matter. Prepare to drive to Newark.
As part of an installation town hall June 8, attendees were advised that more tickets can be expected to achieve compliance with the traffic code on the installation.
One of the slides shown during the town hall contained the text: "All pedestrians, bicyclists, and persons operating any motorized vehicle on Picatinny Arsenal are required to obey legally posted traffic signs."
Lt. Col. Ingrid Parker, the Garrison Commander, also reminded attendees that runners and motorists have a shared responsibility to use the roadways safely.
Other reminders mentioned at the town hall included obeying traffic signs, use of restraint systems, avoiding driver distractions and observing parking rules, including assigned, handicap and permit parking.
Senior Commander Brig. Gen. Patrick W. Burden added to a general theme of safety during the town hall, encouraging water safety, safe riding of motorcycles and daily safety precautions at work and at home.
"You are our most treasured resource," Burden said.
Regarding the Picatinny Alert System, town hall attendees were told that registration on the system was up to 90 to 95 percent of the installation population. The system is used to send alerts such as those related to closures and emergency situations.
A key advantage of the alert system is that when cell phone communication is disrupted because of a high volume of calls, the alerts can still get through and serve as a back-up method of information, town hall attendees were told.
In other town hall news, Picatinny Community Day is scheduled for July 9 and volunteers are being sought. Any volunteer work would be limited to one hour so that volunteers could still enjoy the event.
A variety of awards and formal recognition were also presented during the town hall.
