FORT HOOD, Texas - The 1st Cavalry Division will be hosting "CAV Week" - a weeklong celebration marking both the 240th U.S. Army birthday and the division's 68th annual reunion.
This week provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the division being the "First In Tokyo" at the end of World War II, the 65th anniversary of being "First In Pyongyang," and the 50th anniversary of the activation of the 1st Cavalry Division as the airmobile division and the beginning of nearly a decade of service in Vietnam.
Events during CAV Week include a viewing of "We Were Soldiers" and discussion with Vietnam veterans for current troopers in the division, a Family Day celebration, and the "Spirit of the Cav" - a twilight pageant celebrating the history of the cavalry trooper.
These events provide our troopers the opportunity to interact with and learn from those who have "Lived the Legend," further cementing the ties of cavalry camaraderie across multiple generations.
Media representatives are invited to attend the viewing of "We were Soldiers," the Family Day events, and the Spirit of the Cav ceremony.
Media representatives interested in covering any the events, please contact 1st Cavalry Division Public Affairs Office at 254-287-9400 or email bryce.s.dubee.mil@mail.mil to coordinate escort and gate times for individual events.
