ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Leadership from commands across the arsenal came together for the island's first Community Health Promotion Council (CHPC), here, May 28.
The CHPC is a forum comprised of senior leaders, subject matter experts and community representatives to discuss health issues and develop actions that could improve the overall health of island personnel and their families.
The forum is chaired by Maj. Gen. Kevin O'Connell, commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command and senior mission commander of RIA. It is projected to meet once every quarter to coordinate strategic integration of RIA programs falling under the five pillars of Army Health Promotion.
The five pillars are behavioral health and mental strength; environmental and social; health education; physical fitness; and spiritual resiliency.
Liz Rodriguez, health promotion officer, ASC, leads the CHPC initiative at RIA.
"Success, to me, would be that everyone understands and participates in improving the health of Rock Island Arsenal," she said. "Some of the challenges include creating better synergy between some of the existing programs so we can continue to improve effectiveness and value."
O'Connell is scheduled to speak at the upcoming island-wide Health Promotion Kickoff event June 22 at 11:30 a.m. in Heritage Hall.
"The event is an opportunity to learn about health promotion on Rock Island Arsenal and how it can benefit you," said Rodriguez. "You can see the support behind these programs, and how success truly depends on you."
