WIESBADEN, Germany -- Army Europe antiterrorism and force protection officials have directed travel restrictions to Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen from June 4-8, for Department of Defense personnel.
This guidance restricts all Army Europe sponsored personnel from traveling to the specified areas. Family members are highly encouraged to avoid the areas as well.
The restrictions have been set in response to the planned protest at the upcoming annual G7 Summit. Officials say there is a possibility that violence may be used for retaliation and are expecting thousands of protestors, which will include anti-globalization and other activists.
Commanders will inform their personnel of the mandatory travel restrictions to the specified areas and have been instructed to warn all personnel about the potential violence and threats.
Force protection officials are also reminding personnel to ensure they remain aware, alert, attentive, and knowledgeable of suspicious activity reporting. If individuals see something suspicious they are encouraged to report the activity to local authorities immediately.
