The 18th Medical Command (MEDCOM) (DS) Unit Health Promotion Team (UHPT) conducted their first "Lunch and Learn" event at the Unit Headquarters, May 15, 2015.
The theme for the event was "Healthy Nibbles and Sips" in support of the Performance Triad.
The session was open to Soldiers, their families, and civilian personnel.
Members of the UHPT were challenged to prepare a healthy dish or beverage that was easy to prepare, less than 400 calories per serving, using common and inexpensive ingredients, while maintaining an overall healthy nutritional value.
Ingredients of each dish and beverage were displayed along with their nutritional values and actual serving size.
A sample of each food item was given to personnel on their way to lunch.
According to event leaders, this resulted in a short, but effective interactive experience that provided education on making healthier choices, and working towards positive lifestyle changes.
