Fort Knox, Ky. (May 19, 2015) -- The U.S. Army Cadet Command has recognized 12 individuals for their contributions to training excellence, and their roles in furthering the Command's dual missions of preparing the next generation of the Army's leaders as well as a new generation of productive, responsible citizens.
The 2015 USACC Awards for Excellence Winners are:
Professor of Military Science of the Year: Lt. Col. Mitchell K. Day, University of Wyoming, 5th Brigade.
Instructor of the Year: Capt. Patrick A. Beckwith, University of Montana, 8th Brigade.
Recruiting Operations Officer of the year: Mr. Douglas Mulvaney, Michigan State University, 7th Brigade.
Brigade Nurse Counselor of the Year: Maj. Alexis Martinez, Headquarters, 6th Brigade.
Human Resources Assistant of the Year: Ms Silvia Thomas, Canisius College, 2nd Brigade.
Supply Technician of the Year: Mr. Robert Reid, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, 3rd Brigade.
GS 12-14 Employee of the Year: Mr. Steve Van Straten, Headquarters, 5th Brigade.
GS 9-11 Employee of the Year: Ms Doris Sales, Headquarters, 6th Brigade.
GS 5-8 Employee of the Year: Ms Gayle Macias, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Headquarters, U.Ss Army Cadet Command.
Director of Army Instructor (DAI) of the Year: Lt. Col. (Ret.) Robert E. Davis, Dallas Independent School District, 5th Brigade.
Senior Army Instructor (SAI) of the Year: Col. (Ret.) Stephen Cellucci, St. James High School, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, 4th Brigade.
Army Instructor (AI) of the Year: 1st Sgt. (Ret.) Manuel Valdez, Hollywood Hills High School, Hollywood, Florida, 6th Brigade.
Mr. Robert Burns, Deputy Chief of Staff, G1, U.S. Army Cadet Command, congratulated "all the winners. Their untiring and selfless efforts over the past year have had a tremendous impact on the command's ability to recruit, train and commission the future officer leadership of the Army."
The awards will be presented at a later date.
The U.S. Army Cadet Command is responsible for the Army's senior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program at 275 host campuses and more than 1,100 affiliated schools nationwide. ROTC produces nearly 70 percent of the Army's new officers each year. Cadet Command also oversees the Army's Junior ROTC program, a citizenship program at more than 1,700 high schools nationwide as well as overseas.
