The U.S. Army Engineer Regiment gives out six awards annually: the Itschner, the Outstanding Engineer Platoon Leader, the Outstanding Engineer Warrant Officer, the Van Autreve, the Outstanding Civilian Awards, and the Sturgis Medal.

U.S. Army Europe engineers were awarded three out of the six awards this year, which were presented in a ceremony in Wiesbaden, Germany, June 4, and earlier this year at the Engineer Regimental Ball, April 24, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

1st Lt. Jonathan Kasprisin, 15th Engineer Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, was awarded the Outstanding Engineer Platoon Leader Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to military engineering by demonstrated technical and leadership ability.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 David Beeson, 15th Eng. Bn., 18th MP Bde., 21st TSC, was awarded the outstanding Engineer Warrant Officer Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to military engineering by demonstrating technical and leadership ability.

Thomas (Joe) Copeland II, Technical Engineer Division chief, Office Deputy Chief of Staff, Engineer, U.S. Army Europe, was awarded the Outstanding Civilian Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions and support to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Regiment, to include civil works, humanitarian and community achievements.

Kasprisin and Beeson attended the ball to receive their awards, and Copeland received his award from German Brig. Gen. Markus Laubenthal, chief of staff, USAREUR, in a ceremony held in Wiesbaden, Germany, June 4.

U.S. Army Europe's Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Engineer, provides Army engineer expertise to Army Europe commanders, staff, units and sister services, and synchronizes engineer effort across the theater in order to fulfill requirements of the USAREUR campaign plan.

Engineers provide engineer staff estimates; coordinate theater engineer assets; exercises troop construction; establishes Forward Operating Site (FOS) Bases and FOS facility standards; and coordinates environment, and real estate agreement requirements.
