WIESBADEN, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Pilzen here, May 8, with the unveiling of an exhibit at the Shalikashvili Mission Command Center, or Shali Center, on Clay Kaserne.

Col. Bill Williams, deputy chief of staff, USAREUR, and Dr. Robert Schloesser, director of U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, were at the event along with other USAREUR staff members.

Molly Bompane, USAREUR's curator, used the opportunity to highlight the historic 30-foot U.S. flag now hanging in the Shali Center over the exhibit.

"This flag is an actual flag flown in the Plzen Liberation Parade 70 years ago," Bompane said. "The flag is on loan to us from the Patton Memorial in Pilzen and reflects not only the magnitude of feelings and respect the people of Czechoslovakia had for U.S. Soldiers 70 years ago but also USAREUR's relationship with this NATO museum and the people of Czech today. We are fortunate to have this relationship and extremely proud to have this original flag in display as part of our exhibit."

The display will remain the foyer of the Shali Center until winter 2015, and visitors are encouraged to come by and visit the exhibit.
