Richmond, VA. (May 8, 2015) -- The 80th Training Command Chaplain's Office hosted a prayer breakfast to celebrate the national day of prayer at the U.S. Defense Supply Center Richmond Va., May 7, 2015.
Chaplain (Col.) David L. Waters Sr., U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command chaplain, delivered the sermon to an audience made up of Soldiers and civilians from the 80th TC and the Defense Supply Center.
"I believe the best Soldiers are the Soldiers that have faith, because they can face all that the military throws at them to include the potential of laying their life down for a nation, Waters told the congregation. "They serve with confidence knowing their eternity is secure with God."
"Faith is essential for every Soldier," said Col. Charles Butler, 80th TC, deputy chief of staff, who attended the event. "You have to have something that drives and motivates you."
Chaplain Candidate (1st Lt.) David Martinez delivered the benediction and Chaplain Candidate (2nd Lt.) Jaechul Pi, delivered the opening prayer.
"It's always a good morale booster," said Martinez, referring to the prayer breakfast. "We gather as a nation. Many faith groups come together and pray to God for protection, wisdom and guidance."
Staff Sgt. Terra Allen, 80th TC Family Programs, lead the congregation in a rendition of "Leaning on Everlasting Arms."
"No matter what you are going through, it's a song to give you encouragement, knowing that Jesus is always there with you through good and bad," Allen said.
The national day of prayer is observed every year on the first Thursday of May.
