Poodle skirts and leather jackets were back in style the morning of May 1 when Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosted its first-ever Rockin' & Reelin' Sock Hop 5K and 1-Mile Walk.

The Fort Myer Fitness Center-based run and walk were held in partnership with JBM-HH Survivor Outreach Services and Andrew Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic.

Command on hand to run the latest themed run and walk were Deputy Joint Base Commander Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Orille and Rader Clinic Commander Lt. Col. Ed Weinberg.

Weinberg wished all safe footing and continued good health before the starting gun was fired.

"At Andrew Rader Health Clinic, we're all about health. Just keep in mind those things that are part of the Performance Triad: Sleep, activity and nutrition. We're getting our activity out here this morning, and don't forget about the sleep. It's vitally important, and the nutrition is part of a well-rounded, well-balanced life."

Winning the overall male portion of the race was Antonio Eppolito, who ran the course in 17 minutes and 20 seconds. The top female finisher was Marisol Hernandez. Her final 5K time was 22:37.

The next series of JBM-HH road races in 2015 include the first and second of three Army 10-Miler qualifying races to be held May 15 and June 19; as well as, the Marine Corps Community Services Iwo Jima 7K on May 13 and FMWR's July 2's Firecracker "Twinkie Challenge" race and walk.
