WASHINGTON (April 23, 2015) -- Col. Michael J. Worth, Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military District of Washington's Medical Evacuation CONUS Hospitals (MECH) chief, was presented the Legion of Merit recognizing his 30 years of service to the military during a ceremony held at Fort Lesley J. McNair.

Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, JFHQ-NCR/MDW commanding general, presided over the ceremony.

As the MECH chief, Worth managed a team that represents our Army Leaders when sick, ill, injured and wounded service members return to the United States at Joint Base Andrews, Md. This small group of dedicated professionals provides continuous visibility of patient transitions from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, to designated Medical Treatment Facilities stateside.

As of March 2015, they have met a total of 1,606 flights, assisted more than 49,000 service members (all branches) and distributed more than $2,000,000 in Army Emergency Relief funds.
