On April 22, the United States Army will join the Nation in celebrating Earth Day.
Army Earth Day 2015 is our opportunity to renew our commitment to sound
environmental stewardship of the lands entrusted to us; the lands where our Soldiers,
Families and Civilians train, live and work.
To ensure the Army continues to remain ready, resilient and capable of
accomplishing its mission of defending our Nation, it is especially important that we
maintain our commitment to protecting the environment. Our participation in Army Earth
Day focuses on inspiring awareness and appreciation of the environment and how it
sustains the mission. The Army takes great pride in its commitment to the environment,
Acknowledging the Past by restoring Army lands and preserving cultural and historical
resources; Engaging the Present by meeting today's environmental standards while
enabling Army operations and protecting Soldiers, Families and Civilians, and Charting
the Future by using best practices and new technologies to ensure future environmental
resiliency.
The Army continues to lead the Federal Government through our sustainability
initiatives. We reduce, repurpose, recycle at our military installations and maintain our
valued partnerships with conservation organizations. We enhance resiliency of our
installations through energy efficiency and renewable energy. We are addressing
climate change by supporting adaptation efforts to identify and assess the risks of
climate change to national security, and we are seeking technological innovations and
energy solutions to mitigate climate change by reducing green house gas emissions.
As we commemorate Army Earth Day 2015, we encourage everyone to take an
active role in sustaining the Earth's resources. Learn more about the Army's
environmental initiatives and take advantage of the many opportunities to make a
difference on your installation. Support the Army's commitment to maintain a quality
environment, secure it for future generations and remain Army Strong!
