Soldiers from Army installations and units within the National Capital Region attended the U.S. Army Military District of Washington's Company Commander/First Sergeant Pre-Command Course held at Fort Lesley J. McNair, from 20 - 23 April, 2015.

The course is a resident "troop school" conducted at more than 30 installations and units for company command teams prior to assuming their duties. The course prepares company-level command teams by providing information on policies, programs and procedures critical to success in these demanding leadership positions.

Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, MDW commanding general, provided opening remarks and an overview of the course's intent. Buchanan passed on his thoughts to the class regarding various issues which included leadership by example, the tension leaders feel between wanting to be liked vice wanting to be respected and the need for leaders to develop their Soldiers.
