ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Members of U.S. Army Sustainment Command represented the command at an employment and education event in Heritage Hall, April 15.
The event, hosted by U.S. Army Garrison -- RIA, was intended to create opportunities within the community for employment, education, training and networking.
Melinda Verstraete, G-1 (Human Resources), ASC, represented ASC at the event.
"The turnout today was excellent," she said. "It's very unfortunate that so many veterans are unemployed, but it's a very positive thing to see so many people here where we can assist them in finding employment and making them aware of the programs available to them."
A big initiative at such events for ASC is U.S. Army Materiel Command's "Always a Soldier" program. Developed in 2004, the program provides continuity of support to the warfighter separating from the armed forces.
"Always a Soldier is one of the biggest highlights here for ASC," said Vertraete. "I feel ASC has a genuine concern for our veterans, and helping them find employment. My biggest hope is that they take away from this the feeling that people care about them, their employment and their education."
