Crane Army Announces New Commander Selected

CRANE, Ind. -- The U.S. Army announced the selection of Col. Jim Hooper as the 17th commander of Crane Army Ammunition Activity located on Naval Support Activity Crane.

Hooper, a distinguished graduate of the Army ROTC program at Lafayette College, was commissioned as an Ordnance Officer in 1992. He currently serves as the Chief of Staff of the 1st Theater Sustainment Command's Operational Command Post located at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

The 1st TSC is based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with its forward headquarters in Kuwait. Comprised of military, civilian and contractor personnel, the 1st TSC and its subordinate units ensure fighting men and women have the supplies and transportation capabilities they need to accomplish their missions throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

Hooper will replace Col. Joe Dixon who has been selected to serve as the G4, the senior staff logistician, for III Corps, one of three corps of the United States Army Forces Command and located at Fort Hood, Texas.

The change of command is expected to take place in June 2015 on the Crane base.

Established October 1977, Crane Army Ammunition Activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure in order to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components. Crane Army maintains up to one third of the Dept. of Defense's conventional ammunition inventory. The Activity also provides command oversight of Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Letterkenny Munitions Center, Pennsylvania, and Milan Army Ammunition Plant, Tennessee.
