BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (April 11, 2015) -- A shura was held Wednesday to discuss local security in the Bagram District of Parwan Province and highlight recent successes of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) in that area.

Deputy Commander for U.S. Forces at Bagram Airfield, Col. Douglas Crissman, and Task Force Solid leadership met with Bagram District Gov. Abdul Qadusi and maliks (village leaders) from Parwan Province.

"We have a great relationship with this group of leaders," Task Force Solid Commander Lt. Col. Zachary Miller said. "We're partners working together. Gov. Qadusi and the maliks are working collectively to make things better for their people."

The district governor echoed the importance of U.S. and Afghan leaders working together.

"The people of Bagram are thankful for the training the coalition has given to the Afghan Security Forces, the huge investment they've made, and for risking their lives to help make ours better. Having shuras like this one is very important to discuss security, reconstruction, and building relationships."

Discussions included improving police policies, establishing a more efficient use of resources, and increased patrols in the Bagram District.

"The ANDSF have taken full responsibility for securing the Afghan people," Crissman said. "Everyone recognizes Afghanistan is still a dangerous place, as recent incidents demonstrate. However, by working together with our Afghan partners -- holding shuras like this -- and building on the progress already made, we are moving in the right direction. Together we have set the foundation for an enduring -- strategic partnership."
