FORT RILEY Kans. -- Ready, set, go. These are the words that signaled the start of the Easter Egg Hunt April 4. The staff from the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt and several other family activities at Riley's Conference Center here.

Activities at the event included inflatables, pictures with the Easter bunny, dying hard-boiled eggs, a coloring wall and Riley's food truck. Easter Egg Hunts started at 11:30 a.m. and ran through the afternoon. Approximately 15,000 plastic prize-filled eggs were distributed.

The hunts were divided by age group, ranging from infants to children older than 10. Each scheduled

hunt had one golden and five silver tickets. The tickets were for bigger prizes than couldn't fit in the eggs. Other eggs had candy and toys.

Kim Wargo, a special event coordinator, was in charge of the MWR event. She said although the event is designed to give Fort Riley families a celebration of Easter, surrounding community members participated as well.

"It gives families the chance to come out as a family and do activities and celebrate the Easter season together," Wargo said.

Eight-year-olds Kaitlyn Bartlett and Aubrey North were among the children enjoying the egg hunts

and other activities. They were celebrating Easter with each other before celebrating with their families Sunday.

Before the hunt, Bartlett said she was going for the larger eggs.

"I especially like the big eggs that have more in them," Bartlett said. "I've never got one, but I'm hoping to get one today."

North agreed. She added she enjoys when things other than candy such as necklaces and bracelets are in her eggs.

"It's just fun to find things in them," North said.
