FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii (March 30, 2015) -- Brig. Gen. Patrick Sargent, Commanding General, Pacific Regional Medical Command (PRMC), attended the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC), commander's conference at the Hale Ikena, along with various other pacific area of operation commanders in order to receive the USARPAC commander's guidance for execution of the USARPAC's Theater Campaign Support Order.

During the conference, Sargent also participated in senior leader professional development and had an opportunity to share and exchange information about Army Medicine in the Pacific.

Sargent briefed attendees on his roles and responsibilities as the PRMC Commander, providing command oversight of the 18th Medical Command (Deployment Support), and his role as the USARPAC Surgeon.

He also discussed his current focus for Army Medicine status within the Pacific.

"At this point, I have the capacity to think more up and out and to get out into the theater and see what's going on and to make better informed decisions for the CG (Gen. Vincent Brooks, USARPAC Commander) relative to the Army Health System that we are managing," said Sargent.

Sargent also discussed the Army Medical Department's transformation.

In addition, he briefed an innovative concept that would realign some Army Medicine organizations to USARPAC and would increase the PRMC Headquarters' area of responsibility.

Under this new concept, PRMC would serve as the single point of command and control for all aspects of health and wellness, to include dental and public health.

In conjunction with this Army Medicine transformation, PRMC is in the planning phase of establishing a more synchronized and agile Army Medicine Enterprise in the Pacific.

The concept is currently pending Secretary of the Army approval.

In addition to other topics, Sargent also discussed recent engagements with regional health partners and the goal of assisting allies with healthcare system strength and stability to deter aggression and maintain security.
