In an effort to provide special education courses and resources to Army staff, parents and local education agencies, the Army Installation Management Command, Exceptional Family Member Program, brings you LRP Publications' DirectSTEP and Special Ed Connection. These exciting new initiatives are now available as children enter, progress through and exit the world of special education requirements.

DirectSTEP is a free online, interactive, self-paced professional development course for Army staff, parents and local education agencies. These eCourses explain federal requirements and best practices for behavior management, autism, Individuals with Disabilities Act eligibility, Individual Education Program and more. The eCourses include learning quizzes and activities that will help participants learn how to make decisions that are educationally and legally sound. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of each eCourse. The eCourses range from 90 minutes to three hours, but do not have to be done in one sitting. You can always stop and return to where you last left off. Anyone interested in this training may self-register at www.armyefmp.ds.lrp.com.

Special Ed Connection (www.SpecialEdConnection.com) is a searchable, legally compliant one-stop reference center for special education that is available 24/7/365 and available only to Army staff and parents. You'll be able to instantly locate proven strategies, helpful tools, federal statutes/regulations and more. Below are highlights of just a few of the many components that are available:

• Smart Starts -- The perfect starting point when you need to familiarize yourself with specific special education topics such as IEP basics and parental involvement.

• Special Ed Online Dictionary -- Provides straight forward definitions of more than 1,400 widely used terms, which enhance dialogue about special education issues.

• News, Articles and Updates -- Stay current on newsworthy events in the special education community. It's your electronic newspaper dedicated to keeping you informed and provides best practices from special education experts.

• Special Ed Round‐Ups -- Provide you with a way to obtain best‐practice guidance and gain access to valuable resources on a host of important special education issues.
