FORT BENNING, Ga., (March 11, 2015) -- What a great week Faith Middle School students had with Read Across America. Read Across America is a reading motivation program that occurs every year. This program calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading.

Activities at Faith ranged from guest readers stopping by Faith to read to our students as well as our students traveling to an elementary school and reading to students there.

The eighth graders blogged with students in Japan and Germany about the lessons taught in Dr. Seuss' book "Oh, the Places You'll Go".

One day the students wore crazy socks and on another day they wore crazy hats. The cafeteria at Faith participated in the fun, serving green eggs and ham in honor of the Dr. Seuss' book "Green Eggs and Ham".

Every grade had a wide variety of lessons and activities planned for each day. Faith's student council kicked off a book drive to collect books that will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus.

Guest readers included Dr. Christie Cabezas, Ft. Benning Schools superintendent, Col. and Mrs. Chuck Poche, JAG Commander, Lt. Col. Czar, director of Directorate of Emergency Services, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Salazar, Chief of Staff at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, various Partners in Education and many of Faith's teachers and students.

Faith Middle School's own Miss Lee Strickland, seventh-grade teacher, gave an emotional, dramatic reading from the book by Mildred Taylor, "Mississippi Bridge". The children were spellbound.

Faith students learned so many lessons from all these incredible stories and activities all the while fostering and growing a love for reading.
