The production of a public service announcement brought together elements of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Feb. 23 to make the community aware of April's designation as Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Month of the Military Child.

At Memorial Chapel's Fellowship Hall, staff from JBM-HH's Family Advocacy Program organized Soldiers, Marines and joint base staff members to stand ready to defend children against abuse. The newfangled video project evolved from the advocacy program office and came to fruition when groups and individuals, including Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Command Sgt. Maj. Randall E. Woods, Cody Child Development Center employees, Henderson Hall Family Advocacy Program and Andrew Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic staff members took part in the production.

"We were hoping to do something new this year [for Child Abuse Prevention Month]; something that would go far and wide," said Family Advocacy Program Manager Kelly Smith.

The premise of the production involved the PSA volunteers holding cue-card-type cards which contained lines from Dorothy Law Nolte's poem, "Children Learn What They Live." While holding the cards and the lines of the poem, photographer Gregory Jones snapped pictures of the JBM-HH participants. All on-camera cameos were of the non-speaking variety, and the photos will be converted to video that is being produced and edited by the program's community educator, Sandra McLean.

"I came up with the idea to do the PSA," McLean said during the production. "I thought it would be a great message to show during child abuse prevention month. I felt like getting everyone involved to do this poem."

The video endeavor will be produced as a PowerPoint presentation and is scheduled to be shown throughout April.
