FORT HOOD, Texas -- The U.S. Army Sustainment Command held its inaugural Rail Safety Course here, Feb. 23-27.

Also attending the training were representatives from III Corps, Division West, 4th Sustainment Brigade and the installation Directorate of Public Works.

The 407th is one of seven AFSBs under ASC headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois.

Alan Rogers, safety officer, 407th AFSB; Curtis Brook, ASC Safety Program representative; and Kent Young, safety manager, Logistics Readiness Center - Fort Hood, provided set-up support in preparation of rail safety training. Eighteen personnel from both the safety and rail fields attended the training event, which was conducted by Howard Mayhew, Transportation Corps, Department of Defense.

"I am thankful that the government has decided to place a stronger emphasis on rail safety," Mayhew said. "This course will allow each location that has rail operations the ability to investigate and/or inspect any and all rail accidents, with the end result being saving the government money."
